In recent developments, Dhananjay Munde, Minister for Social Justice and Special Assistance directed the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) to take immediate action to expedite the construction of the memorial of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar at Indu Mill within the stipulated time period.
According to sources, a meeting was held in the hall of the Ministry in order to review the work of the memorial through a television system. Moreover, Minister of State for Social Justice Dr Vishwajeet Kadam, MMRDA Commissioner SVR Srinivas, Social Justice and Special Assistance Department Shyam Tagade and Social Justice Department officials were also present on the occasion.
Furthermore, Munde stated that the original duration of the project had been extended in view of the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, the work of the monument should be expedited and completed within the stipulated time. In addition, MMRDA Commissioner SVR Srinivas, speaking about the current status of the work, added that the estimated work of the project is 48 per cent complete.
Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar was not just a jurist or an economist, he was a social reformer who spearheaded the Dalit Buddhist movement further campaigning against the social evil of untouchability. Ambedkar was independent India's first Minister of Law and Justice and was considered as the chief architect of the Constitution of India. He died in his sleep on December 6, 1956, at his home in Delhi.
