Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar on Tuesday revealed that he has been served a notice by the Income Tax department in connection with his election affidavits submitted to the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Pawar was speaking to the media at Yashwantrao Chavan Pratishthan in Mumbai. While addressing the press conference, Pawar attacked the central government over the passage of farm bills and banning onion export.
Speaking about the income tax notice, Pawar informed that he has been served notice regarding his election affidavits filed in 2009, 2014 and 2019. The notice has been sent as per the instruction of the Election Commission and clarification has been sought on some aspects of the affidavits, he added.
“I got the notice yesterday. It has been served by Income Tax after the Election Commission asked it to do so. We are happy that they (central government) love us among all the members. If one doesn’t reply, they will have to pay a fine of ₹10,000 per day. I will reply to this notice soon,” Pawar, NCP MP from Rajya Sabha said.
Earlier, the similar notices were also served to NCP MP Supriya Sule, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray and State Environment Minister Aaditya Thackeray from the Income Tax Department.
On Tuesday, Pawar observed a day-long fast to protest the suspension of eight Rajya Sabha members for opposing the farm bills. Pawar, a Rajya Sabha member, expressed displeasure over the conduct of deputy chairman Harivansh.
He said that the deputy chairman didn’t follow the house rules and criticised the decision to suspend eight MPs. The NCP chief said that the MPs were suspended for expressing their opinion against two agricultural bills.
