The Opposition in the state assembly is now joining forces to take the farmers' loan waiver issue to the streets. According to Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee president Ashok Chavan and Nationalist Congress Party head Sunil Tatkare, all opposition parties will jointly hold a protest rally from 29 March to 5 April.

The state government had tabled a proposal to suspend 19 MLAs belonging to the Congress and the NCP, who were on an agitation to demand farmers' loan waiver. At a meeting called by opposition parties, and attended by the AIMIM as well as the Shetkari Kamgar Paksha, it was decided to hold a state wide agitation to focus attention on the issue.
