Nearly 72 per cent employers in India are planning to hire freshers in the coming months, revealed the recently released 'Career Outlook Report HY2 (July - December 2024)' by Teamlease EdTech.
Based on a survey of over 603 companies in India, the report highlights the positive trend in the job market for fresh graduates.
The report reveals that the top three industries looking to hire freshers are e-commerce and technology start-ups, engineering and infrastructure and retail, where 61 per cent, 59 per cent and 54 per cent of employers in these sectors are planning to recruit, respectively.
Among cities, Bengaluru leads with 74 per cent of employers intending to hire freshers, Mumbai was 60 per cent and Chennai with 54 per cent.
The 72 percent hiring consideration represents a 4 per cent increase over the last six months and a 7 percent increase over the same period in 2023. This shows that there is a gradual increase in the employment sector for new talent.
Full stack developer, SEO executive, digital sales associate and UI/UX designer have emerged as the most in-demand positions for freshers in terms of job vacancies. Employers are particularly looking for candidates with skills in cybersecurity, cloud computing, data analytics and search engine optimization. The report also highlights the growing importance of industry-academia collaboration with 70 per cent of employers recommend enhancing curriculum with experiential learning, while 62 per cent of employers support industry-academic collaboration to deliver education tailored to industry needs. Also, graduate trainees are seeing steady demand.
The manufacturing industry leads the way with 25 per cent of employers planning to hire graduate trainees, followed by engineering and infrastructure at 19 per cent and construction and real estate at 11 percent. Among cities, Bengaluru leads with 25 per cent of employers looking to hire degree trainees, followed by Chennai with 21 per cent and Mumbai with 16 per cent.
