A Police constable Lalita Salve, from Beed, was more than happy when she underwent sex reassignment surgery at St. George Hospital. Lalita Salve will now be known as Lalit Salve.
In a press conference held post Lalita’s surgery, St. George dean Madhukar Gaikwad, told the media that Salve’s female genitals had not developed and she never experienced menses. Doctors have successfully placed conduit which for the time being will help Lalita in urination.

Plastic surgeon Rajat Kapoor said that there was no blood loss during the surgery and it went very well as Salve was a fit patient. The surgery went for 2-3 hours and was carried out by four surgeons and a team of four anesthesiologists.
The first stage of sex reassignment surgery has been completed successfully. After a gap of 3-6 months, her conduit of passing urine will be completed. Here, the patient will be able to pass urine normally. In later stages, we will create beard and mustache for him through hair transplant, if the patient desires,” Dr Rajat Kapoor.
Gaikwad added that the Lalita felt trapped in woman’s body underwent mental trauma. She tried her best to seek help at her native place but to no avail.
When the family started searching groom for her, she told her family about her identity. At first, her family was devastated but gradually, they supported her.

Born in June 1988, Salve had undergone a medical test in 2014, which indicated that she had male genes. Doctors told her that she had gender dysphoria and advised her to undergo a sex reassignment surgery. In 2016, she undertook a test at J J Hospital which suggested her the same.
