The Aarey-BKC phase of the Colaba-Bandra-Seepz Metro 3 project is scheduled to enter service in October, while the Aarey-Cuffe Parade phase is scheduled to enter service in April 2025. After this 33.5 km long metro line comes into service, passengers will have to wait till 2026 for the next metro lines in the Mumbai metropolitan area.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is currently working on six metro lines, of which 'Metro 2B', 'Metro 4' and the first phase of 'Metro 9' are expected to be completed by December 2025. The first phase of these routes will have to wait for April-May 2026 to enter service after receiving safety certification. It is likely that the 337 km long metro network in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region will be completed by 2031-32.
The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) is responsible for the work of 'Metro 3' and 'Metro 11' (Wadala - CSMT) lines of MMRDA's 337 km long metro project. The remaining routes are being implemented by MMRDA. Ghatkopar-Versova Metro 1, 'Dahisar-Andheri West Metro 2A' and 'Dahisar-Gundavali Metro 7' totaling 47 km long metro network are currently operational.
Now the first phase of 'Metro 3' project with a length of 12.44 km between Aarey-BKC will be brought into service in the first week of October. Whereas the second phase between Aarey-Cuffe Parade will be operational in April 2025. Overall, the 79 km long metro network in Mumbai will be completed by April 2025. But after 'Metro 3', the next line will have to wait till April-May 2026 to come into service.
