The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, its neighbouring cities and other parts of Maharashtra until April 10.

According to the IMD, by April 11, temperatures could rise by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius.

In Maharashtra, the yellow alert is in place for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg for the next three days.

A yellow alert means people should stay alert and take precautions. The IMD has warned of more heat and humidity in the coming days.

On Sunday, April 6, Santacruz weather station recorded the minimum and maximum temperature at 24°C and 33.8°C.

Meanwhile, on April 10, the Santacruz and Colaba observatory recorded the minimum temperature at 27.4 and 27 degrees Celsius. These numbers show a steady increase.

Besides, on April 9, the maximum temperature at both the observatory was 33.7 and 33.9 degrees Celsius.

The IMD has advised people to drink enough water. People have been advised to stay careful and follow safety steps to avoid heat-related illness. People should avoid going out in the sun, especially in the afternoon. They should try to stay in cool places.

However, it is pertinent to note that unseasonal rains are also being reported in parts of Maharashtra. This kind of rainfall is not common during this time of the year. Experts say that sudden rain and an early rise in heat may point to an early and harsh summer.
