Western Railway, on April 6, 2023, announced the launch of a mobile application called 'Yatri' to enable commuters to check the real-time status of trains on its suburban network between Churchgate station in south Mumbai and Dahanu in Palghar district. The app, launched by Western Railway General Manager Ashok Kumar Misra, has been developed in collaboration with a private firm and has several features, including live train tracking, real-time location updates, and information about major railway stations and their amenities. Additionally, the app also provides information about Mumbai Metro services and buses, and a section for users to give feedback.
Real-time Train Tracking Made Easy
The Western Railway has installed GPS tracking devices in all of its suburban trains, allowing the Yatri app to provide commuters with the live location of trains on a map. Commuters can easily access this information in just three simple steps. They can find the nearest stations directly on the map, type the source station, and track their chosen train to determine its proximity to plan their journey accordingly.

Other App Features
Apart from live train tracking, the Yatri app also provides authentic information about train updates, announcements, and the latest timetable. Furthermore, the app also allows users to explore nearby tourist destinations and places to visit near stations. The Western Railway also confirmed that the app is divyangjan-friendly, and persons with disabilities can operate the mobile phone via voice commands to find their train's live location with the help of Google Assistant.
The Google Voice Command to facilitate the use of the app for blind and physically challenged railway passengers. With this feature, passengers can simply say "OK Google" to receive live train updates, such as whether the Churchgate-Virar fast local will reach Andheri station on time or not. The app also provides alarming facilities for regular local trains. Moreover, the GPS tracking system in all of its local trains, enabling the Yatri app to provide passengers with additional features that would help plan their journey accordingly
Additional Information
The app will also aim at providing information about Mumbai Metro services, Mono, BEST, and ferry boats, along with local public transport facilities in the city. One will also be able to see railway station maps, ticket prices, information about railway and metro fines, and schedules for Metro and Mono trains.
