The first phase of Metro 3 connecting Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) to Aarey will be operational by the end of September, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced on Sunday, September 15. The work on the second phase is expected to be completed within the next year.

The first phase of Metro Line 3 will have 10 stations. The Aqua Line travels through Andheri suburbs to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) before finally reaching Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC).

Metro Line 3, spanning 33.5 kilometres, is an important north-south corridor designed to enhance connectivity across Mumbai. It will connect six commercial suburbs, 30 office zones, 12 educational institutions, 11 major hospitals, 10 transport hubs and both airports in Mumbai. This extensive network aims to significantly reduce travel time across the city.

Moreover, Shinde presented his ambitious plan to make Mumbai slum-free by building at least three lakh low-cost houses. He disclosed that the state government has partnered with many government organizations to achieve this goal.

CM Shinde also hinted that the state assembly polls are expected to be held in the second week of November and seat-sharing among the ruling allies would be finalised in the next 8 to 10 days.

A two-phase poll would be preferable for the 288-member state assembly, Shinde said in an informal chat with mediapersons at his official residence 'Varsha' in Mumbai.
