Ahead of the 2024 Maharashtra assembly elections, the government has embarked on a project inauguration spree. One of the key events is the likely inauguration of Mumbai's Metro 3 line in the first week of October, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expected to preside. This ambitious transport infrastructure project aims to enhance connectivity in Mumbai and Maharashtra. Additionally, Modi is expected to inaugurate one of the two Thane Bay Bridges, providing significant relief to commuters between Navi Mumbai and Mumbai.
Mumbaikars have eagerly awaited the underground metro since 2014. After overcoming multiple hurdles and environmental objections, the first phase, stretching from Aarey to Bandra Kurla Complex, has been completed and is set for inauguration, with the second phase slated for completion next year.

Metro 3, a 33 km underground line from Colaba to Bandra and SEEPZ, had its foundation laid by then Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and former Union Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu. Its construction began in 2016 under the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
In a related development ahead of the elections, Coastal Road One, another major component of Mumbai’s infrastructure drive, was inaugurated last week by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. This included the Bowstring Arch Bridge connecting Bandra to Marine Drive, with its southern section now open for traffic.
