In the recently held Lok Sabha elections, the Maha Vikas Aghadi was successful in Mumbai and Maharashtra. In particular, the Shiv Sena (UBT) faction benefited from Muslim votes, which was repeatedly alleged by the BJP and the Shinde faction. Leaders of BJP and Shinde group were also saying that Uddhav Thackeray elected MPs on the strength Muslim votes. But now it is seen that the Shinde group is also trying to attract the votes of this same Muslim community. After facing defeat in the South Mumbai Lok Sabha constituency in the Lok Sabha elections, Byculla MLA Yamini Jadhav has focused on the upcoming assembly elections. Recently she took up a program to distribute burqa to Muslim women. But this program is being criticised by allies.
In the Lok Sabha elections, Yamini Jadhav was defeated by Arvind Sawant by 52 thousand votes. Yamini Jadhav could not get majority in Byculla Legislative Assembly itself. After that, now they are trying to get closer to the Muslim votes in the constituency. For this, she undertook the Burkha distribution. However, this did not go well with the BJP. Mumbai BJP President MLA Ashish Shelar has criticised this program.
What did Ashish Shelar say?
While talking to the media, Ashish Shelar was asked a question about Yamini Jadhav's program. Then he said, "I don't know exactly what program was taken. But programs like burkha distribution are not acceptable to BJP.” On September 7, Yamini Jadhav distributed 1000 burkha in her constituency. After this event, the Shiv Sena (UBT) group has criticised the Mahayuti.
We care about our constituency: Yamini Jadhav
While giving information about her program, Yamini Jadhav said that almost 50 percent Muslim community live in their constituency. “My husband Yashwant Jadhav has been working as a corporator in this area for 30 years. As we distribute gifts during Diwali to Hindu families, likewise, we should do something for the Muslim community as well. Women in the Muslim community wear burqas, so we took up the burqa distribution program. Our allies may have a different approach, but we have to take care of our constituencies”, she said.
