Police books 28 people including Shiv Sena leaders

The police have registered a case against 28 people in connection with the vandalism which took place in the main administrative buildings of Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC).

During the clash, the Shiv Sena corporators damaged the office of Mayor Dimple Mehta. Of the 28 people registered in the case, 18 people belong to the Shiv Sena. However, no arrests have been made so far. 

The police have booked the people under sections 353, 143, 147, 149, 427 and 504 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Moreover, the accused have been booked under various sections of Maharashtra Police Act for vandalising public property.

The destruction of public property amounts to at least six months of jail time while the maximum term is five years. 

After the ruckus in MBMC, local Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Narendra Mehta said that he doesn't want to ally with a party that doesn't respect women. On the other hand, Shiv Sena leaders said that they won't campaign for Narendra Mehta in the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections.

The uproar began after Mayor Mehta refused to include the proposed Bal Thackeray cultural auditorium in the standing committee meeting agenda.
