Since 2014 India is celebrating National Integration Day on October 31 to remember the country’s first Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. 

On the occasion of his 144th birth anniversary, ‘Run for Unity’ was organised in various parts of the country. People participate in the event to reflect the strength of the country. This time Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged people to become part of this campaign in large numbers. ‘Run for Unity’ was also organised in several parts of Mumbai.

Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis flagged off ‘Run for Unity’ to celebrate the 144th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in Mumbai. In Mumbai North, along with BJP MP Gopal Shetty, MLA Yogesh Sagar, MLA Sunil Rane and Ramesh Singh Thakur also participated in the event.

Run for Unity is a symbol which shows that the country is moving collectively with the goal of ‘One India, Strong India’, in one direction.

Earlier in October 2018, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 'Statue of Unity' to honour the first Deputy Prime Minister of India who managed to integrate several princely states into the Republic of India.  

Narendra Modi first announced the project to commemorate Vallabhbhai Patel on 7 October 2013 at a press conference to mark the beginning of his 10th year as The Chief Minister of Gujarat. At the time, the project was dubbed, "Gujarat's tribute to the nation".
