In the first week of website launch, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) received nearly 150 complaints, which includes 43 concerning stray dogs and 15 related to dog bites.

The Municipal Veterinary Health Department has introduced the VHD mumbai New Portal to enhance public accessibility.

The department has received 23 complaints from South Mumbai, 37 from the eastern suburbs, and 83 from the western suburbs. Among these, 35 complaints specifically address increased stray dog populations, with the majority originating from the western suburbs.

The BMC responds to complaints based on the details provided and the complainant’s mobile number.

When a complaint is acknowledged, the BMC ensures that the stray dog is captured, sterilised, and then returned to its original location rather than being relocated. Real-time data, including photos of the captured animal and its exact location, are uploaded using GPS and geofencing technology.

For the unversed, the civic body last week launched a new portal designed for residents to report issues related to the city’s dog population, including complaints about stray dogs, rabid dogs, and dog bites.

To facilitate the reporting process and encourage more residents to voice their concerns, the Municipal Corporation has provided a link on its website: https://Vhd.Mcgm.gov.in/register-grievance.
