Nearly 1 lakh important student documents are still pending delivery to Mumbai University. Since the problem has been brewing for four years, the university has shamed dozens of colleges — including some of the most prestigious ones in the city — that are still in default on its website. A severe warning has been sent by the University of Mumbai to its affiliated colleges.

The MU asked them to turn in any outstanding student documentation within a month or admissions will be suspended for the next academic year. More than 97,000 students whose academic careers are in jeopardy because of missing paperwork are impacted by the ultimatum.

The university released a list of 152 non-compliant colleges that have not provided admission data since 2019. The majority of these colleges are autonomous. Migration and transfer certificates are among the missing documents that are necessary to confirm a student's eligibility.

Colleges are required by university laws to submit their eligibility and registration documentation in the same year as first-year admissions. On the other hand, many student eligibility cases are still pending for the 2019-2023 school year.

Many colleges have not complied with the deadline, even after it was extended to September 30 and numerous reminders were sent, forcing the university to take a more stringent stance.

Once more, a month's notice has been issued to all of these colleges. Students from colleges who fail to provide the required paperwork and payment to the university within the specified time frame will not be admitted, and those colleges will not be permitted to hold admissions for the 2025–2026 academic year.

Pooja Raudale, director of the examination and evaluation board, said that an additional deadline of one month has been set to each of these colleges. She further added that colleges that fail to submit the required paperwork and fee to the university within the specified time frame will not be allowed to admit students and will not be allowed to hold the admissions process for the upcoming academic year 2025-2026. The entire responsibility will be borne by those colleges only.

Raudale underlined that the absence of records from the previous four school years has made it difficult for students to pursue options for higher education and employment.

Some college officials, however, draw attention to real-world difficulties with document submission. In colleges After the admissions process is over, students frequently submit documents like migration certificates. For example, I have 100 students registered; why would I postpone submitting documents for just 10 of them? Officials at universities must take into account the real-world difficulties that colleges encounter, stated the principal of a college in Kandivali.
