A Sukhoi fighter plane of the Indian Air Force crashed in a field in Nashik district of Maharashtra on June 4, a report stated.

The plane crashed in a field near Shirasgaon village, the IPS officer said.

The pilot and co-pilot of the Sukhoi Su-30MKI aircraft ejected safely, Special Inspector General of Nashik Range D. R. Karale told PTI. However, they have suffered injuries. 

The police and emergency services have reached the spot and medical treatment is being provided to the pilots. 

Visuals showed the plume of smoke billowing after the aircraft crashed in the field. The twin-engine aircraft was up in flames and a crowd gathered near the crash site.

As per sources, the aircraft was on a test flight after being overhauled by the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL). It took off from Ozar in Nashik. 

It is pertinent to note that HAL completes Sukhoi order, last two jets to roll out soon.
