Police investigations are on into the wall-collapse and cave-in at Wadala’s Lloyd Estate on Monday. The Antop Hill police station has sent a notice to the building proposals (BP) department of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), asking it to clarify the reason behind the collapse. The police will act upon the response from the civic officials, who took a firm stand for the construction plan of the building.

As the ward office is no longer authorised to conduct inspections at under-construction sites, the building proposal department of the city civic body is responsible for carrying out business norms and are liable for a clarification on the occurrence of such incidents.

While officials from the BMC’s BP department claim that it has all paperwork in place, including the commencement certificate of the approved construction plan, the residents alleged that Dosti group violated the plan.

The approved plan required a 650-mm concrete retaining wall to be built around the construction site. Dosti construction site has a BMC building on one side and Lloyd's Estate on its other. The step to build the retaining wall from the other side was overlooked, as a result of which the land near Lloyd's Estate gave way.
