With the world progressing in the digital age, usage of paper is being curbed down and the Indian government also seems to head in the same direction. Soon, passengers travelling domestically will only need their mobile phones to board a plane as there will be no involvement of paper.
According to reports in TOI, the aviation ministry is linking the databases of airlines and airports with passenger IDs such as Aadhaar and passport numbers for this.
Once the database is linked, passengers can enter the airport terminal with the help of biometrics.
As the airport, airlines and passenger database will be available to the authorities, passengers won’t need tickets and biometrics will let them board their respective flight.
The linked airport databases will show if the passenger has been through check-in and security check gates before being allowed access to the boarding gate closer to flight departure time. This step will make sure only passengers who have cleared security checks will be able to board planes and don’t need a security check stamped at every stage.
So Mumbaikars, a good step by the authorities?
