On the occasion of Mahaparinirvan Divas, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has made multiple arrangements at Dadar’s Shivaji Park.

This development comes as thousands of people are set to arrive on December 6 to pay homage to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar on his 68th death anniversary.

The BMC chief and state-appointed administrator Bhushan Gagrani inspected the Shivaji Park ground to check about the progress of the arrangements that have been made on Tuesday afternoon, December 3.

Last year, a total of 15 lakh visitors had thronged the Shivaji Park on this day and civic officials maintained that this year the numbers may cross 20 lakh mark. Of the total, more than 13,000 people took medical assistance last year from civic authorities at the ground.

Civic officials also maintained that on December 6, a live streaming of the Chaityabhoomi will be broadcast through the civic body’s social media channels.

Arrangements for devotees:

  • Mobile toilets
  • Health checkup centers and 11 ambulances
  • WiFi and portable charging facilities for mobile and electronic devices.
  • Additionally, the civic body has set up a makeshift tent on a significant portion of the 30-acre ground for the visitors staying overnight. The residential tent has been divided into six separate compartments, that will not only accommodate thousands of people under one roof, but will also ensure there is adequate ventilation.
  • Amid the rising concerns of air pollution, a dust proof covering has been arranged on the walkways.
  • To prevent dust displacement, water is being sprayed on the walkway. Nearly 18 liters of water has been sprayed on 1,500 square meters.
  • An official stated that a total of 8,000 people have been deployed on ground for crowd management.
