Mumbai is witnessing an unexpected rise in mosquito-borne diseases. In response, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) launched the "Bhag Machchar Bhag" campaign to raise awareness about mosquito control techniques.

This campaign will feature celebrity endorsements and short films from the Marathi and Hindi film industries to promote mosquito control techniques.

According to the BMC’s monsoon report released on Tuesday, July 16, there has been a significant increase in dengue, leptospirosis, and H1N1 cases in the first half of July compared to June 2024.

Reports suggest that dengue cases are expected to rise in August and September. The civic body has urged residents to remove mosquito breeding areas, use mosquito nets, and wear protective gear.

There has been an average of five to six cases of dengue and H1N1 daily since last week. The main symptoms of these illnesses are high-grade fever, body aches, and chills. 

The age range of those affected by these illnesses in Mumbai varies from 18 to 82 years old. It is very important for patients over 60, those with diabetes, and other co-morbidities to get vaccinated. Additionally, there have been instances of patients presenting with influenza and COVID.
