Mumbai has very narrow lanes and bylanes which makes it difficult for the fire brigade officials to reach their destination during emergency situations. Considering this hindrance, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will bring in 17 fire brigade centres which will be placed in small containers. Currently, there are 34 fire brigade centres in the city.
Post the infamous Gokul Nivas (Kalbadevi) fire, former additional commissioner Rajeev Jalota had demanded small fire brigade centres, mist fire engines along with manpower. The fire brigade centres have started buying quick response multi-purpose vehicles and containerised office.
Shade will be built for vehicles in the centre and a containerised office. Around INR 2 crores will be used for the same and we have appointed a contractor as well who will lend us 17 containerised offices,” Prabhat Rahangdale, Chief Fire Officer, Mumbai Fire Brigade.
