In order to protest against the National Medical Commission bill, doctors across the nation will be carrying out a protest from April 2, 2018. Medical Student Network will be leading the protest with the backing of Indian Medical Association.
The decision was finalised in Delhi during a conference where more than 25,000 doctors were present. The doctors believe that the National Medical Commission bill is not beneficial for doctors and they are also demanding to remove some clauses which are against the doctors.
The state's wrong policies is hampering the medical profession and some clauses of the bill are against doctors and poor patients as well. We believe, that these very clauses will boost corruption," Dr Shivkumar Utture, President, Maharashtra Medical Council.
What are the doctor's demands?
- There should not be a compulsion for the bridge course. The state should take measures considering medical facilities.
- Increase the number of members of the National Medical Commission Bill to 29. This should comprise nine members elected by the doctor, while the 10 members recommended by each state should be included.
- Abolish exit exams as it exerts a lot of pressure on poor students. Also, these students cannot afford to pay for coaching classes.
- The fees a private medical university charges a student in the state. Let the university decide on this. But, the colleges which have no vigilance, the bill should decide fees for 50 per cent of the college seats in such colleges.
- The National Medical Commission bill should check and then decide about the doctors who seek medical education from foreign countries and return to India.
- The members of the NMC bill should publicise financial liabilities of themselves and their relatives.
