Maharashtra’s first-ever International Marathi Film Festival, ‘Chitrapataka,’ will be held from April 21 to 24 at the P.L. Deshpande Maharashtra Kala Academy in Mumbai. The festival will feature 41 Marathi films and include panel discussions, workshops, and an exhibition. Its goal is to celebrate and promote Marathi cinema worldwide, as per the report by Free Press Journal.

Announced by Maharashtra's Cultural Affairs Minister, Ashish Shelar, the festival is supported by the state's Cultural Affairs Department, the Maharashtra Film, Theatre and Cultural Development Corporation, and the Kala Academy. The festival aims to bring Marathi cinema to an international audience.

At the launch event,  Shelar explained that ‘Chitrapataka’ means ‘a shining banner’ for Marathi cinema. The festival’s logo features a Mavla (traditional warrior) on horseback holding a banner and shield in the shape of a film reel, symbolizing unity within the Marathi film community.
