The number of hawkers in Vasai - Virar city is increasing tremendously. In the survey conducted by the Vasai- Virar Municipal Corporation (VVMC) only 15,156 hawkers have been registered in the city. As the hawkers block the way on the roads and footpaths, it creates problems for the citizens in transportation and commuting.

However, this number is not going well with the citizens, as they believe that there are countless hawkers spread out across the Vasai Virar area. In the city, hawkers are seen on the main roads, commuting routes, small lanes, footpaths wherever there is possible space. Traffic jams have become the daily ordeal of the citizens due to the same.

Considering the problem of hawkers, a hawker committee meeting was held under the chairmanship of Commissioner Anil Kumar Pawar to find a solution to it and to determine a place for hawkers to sit. It has published the list of hawkers surveyed in nine wards.

The hawkers have been surveyed biometrically. The municipality has said that only 15,156 hawkers have been registered in the city in this survey. After this survey all aspects like hawker policy, seating areas, no hawker area, registration certificate will be completed.

However, while the number of hawkers in the city has increased immensely, the citizens have expressed their surprise that only 15 thousand hawkers are recorded in the municipality register. To solve this problem, with the help of the Urban Planning Department, a hawker zone will be created and hawkers will be rehabilitated by providing specific space.

Apart from this, no hawker zones will be declared at crowded places. Darveshi has said that due to this, the problem of hawkers will be removed and the citizens will get free roads.
