On the day before the announcement of assembly elections, the state government announced a total waiver for light vehicles on five toll nakas in Mumbai. However, due to the non-upload of the 'FASTag' system, many passengers complained that the money was deducted without any notification. After that, orders have been given to keep separate lanes for toll-free vehicles andit has been asked not to charge toll for light vehicles.


On Monday, the government decided to exempt small vehicles, STs and school buses from five toll nakas including Mulund, Airoli, Dahisar, Vashi, Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg. However, on Tuesday morning, the drivers received the message that the toll money has been deducted from FASTAG. Many expressed their displeasure to the toll booth staff and through social media. A demand was made to provide more lanes for small vehicles at Mulund toll plaza. Some drivers also complained that heavy vehicles with fixed tolls are being given priority by the recovery contractor.

When contacted, Managing Director of State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) Anil Gaikwad said that the concerned toll company has been ordered to exempt light vehicles from toll. He also informed that the concerned banks have also been informed about stopping the recovery from 'FASTag'. Executive engineers have been appointed at all the five toll booths to ensure that there is no inconvenience to the passengers and they have been asked to ensure that there is no traffic jam.


The fight for credit continues!

The second day witnessed a fight between the ruling Mahayuti for the credit of waiving off the toll for light vehicles. Hoardings thanking Chief Minister Eknath Shinde were put up at Mulund toll booth. Beside that board, BJP MLA from Mulund, Mihir Kotecha, put up a board thanking  Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.
