The Maharashtra Housing Area Development Authority (MHADA) has accepted the demand of the residents of BDD Chawl to pay 11 months' rent at once instead of every month.


MHADA has started the process of paying rent for 11 months at a time to the residents of BDD Chawl. At the beginning of the BDD Chawl project, MHADA had paid 11 months rent to each. After completion of 11 months, MHADA started paying one month's rent to people and appealed to people to collectively pay 11 months' rent.

A total of 15 thousand 593 families live in BDD Chawl built before independence. Under the BDD Chawl Redevelopment Project, almost 100 years old chawls in Mumbai are being demolished and luxury buildings are being constructed in their place. Under this project, the government will provide 500 square feet houses free of cost to the local citizens.
