For the last few days, Mumbaikars are witnessing a dry spell as rains have gone on a break. Amid this, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that Mumbai’s dry spell is here to stay till Friday, August 16.

With issuing no warning for Mumbai and neighbouring districts, the weather department said that the city is in for a week of only light to moderate rain until Friday at least.

Data furnished by the weather bureau showed that between Sunday and Monday morning, the IMD’s Santacruz observatory recorded 2 mm rainfall while Colaba received 3 mm rain.

Meanwhile, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)’s automatic weather station, the highest rain of 8.92 mm was observed in the eastern suburbs, followed by the island city division which received 7.21 mm and the western suburbs which registered 4.17 mm rain.

The IMD had previously predicted that August would experience heavier rainfall than July, but since the month's inception, only light showers have been observed.

Total rainfall in 2 months:

Mumbai's monsoon season has been marked by an unusual pattern of rainfall, with the city recording 2,237 mm of rain since June. June and July saw a significant amount of precipitation, with nearly 2,053 mm falling during these two months.

The Santacruz station, which is a key indicator of Mumbai's weather, has recorded 184 mm of rain so far this month, a mere 30% of its average monthly total of 566.4 mm.
