In its latest forecast, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted that monsoon activity is likely to pick up pace after June 19-20 in Mumbai. With this, the city’s dry spell will come to an end.

This development came at a time when the rain activity remained largely subdued in the past week even as humidity levels soared.

As per weather department officials, the city is witnessing subdued showers due to weakened monsoon currents. The weather department will monitor the developments of the winds over the next 2-3 days. On the basis of the observations, they will determine the intensity of the monsoon activity in the upcoming week.

It is pertinent to note that the south west monsoon arrived in the city on June 9, ahead of its schedule, with certain pockets experiencing nearly 100 mm rain within the first 24 hours.
