Hearing of petitions related to the pending elections of local bodies in the state was again delayed in the Supreme Court. The next hearing will be held on Tuesday (March 4). According to the top officials of the Election Commission, it may take at least 90 days to prepare for the elections once the results are announced after the hearing.
Due to this, doubts are being expressed whether the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections will be held before monsoon. Pawan Shinde and others have filed a petition in the Supreme Court requesting that Rahul Wagh and the pending local body elections be held immediately regarding OBC reservation.
The hearing on these petitions was held on Tuesday (February 25) before a bench of Justice Suryakant and Justice NK Singh. But this matter was not heard in the morning session. As this bench is not available for judicial work in the afternoon session, advocate Devdutt Palodkar of the petitioners and Solicitor General Tushar Mehta on behalf of the state government requested the Supreme Court that the case should be heard immediately.
It was brought to the notice of the court that the elections to the local bodies are pending due to the stay of the Supreme Court. Adv Devdutt Palodkar, Adv Abhay Anturkar, Adv Shashibhushan Adgaonkar are acting on behalf of the petitioners while Solicitor General Tushar Mehta is acting on behalf of the state government.
