Elphinstone stampede - Mumbaikar files a petition against the railway officials

The death toll rose to 23 as injured patient Satyendra Kanojia succumbed to his injuries during treatment on September 30. He was one of the commuters who was injured in a stampede which took place on the  Elphinstone foot-over-bridge.

While railway minister Piyush Goyal has asked for a high-level inquiry, one of the Mumbaikars Pradeep Bhalekar has filed a petition in Mumbai High Court against the railway officials.

The lawyer of the petitioner Nitin Satpute said that they have demanded the investigation to take place under the supervision of the HC and whoever railway officials are responsible for the stampede should be severely punished. The hearing is to take place on October 3.

27 patients still undergoing treatment
In KEM Hospital, out of 38 injured patients, 27 people are undergoing treatment, while 11 people have been discharged. Likewise, dead bodies of 18 people have been handed over to their relatives, informed chief medical officer Dr Bagadiya.
