A bus headed to Pandharpur for Ashadhi Ekadashi met with an accident on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway resulting in five deaths and several got injured. On the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, five and a half kilometres from Panvel, a private bus carrying devotees to Pandharpur collided with a tractor. The injured in the accident are being treated at the MGM Hospital in Kamothe, while 42 devotees are also reported to have sustained minor injuries.
According to information received, 54 devotees were travelling in the bus at night. Around one in the morning, the bus was going towards Pandharpur on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway when a tractor came speeding in front of the bus. The driver of the travel bus suddenly lost control and hit the tractor causing the bus to fall into a 30 to 40 feet deep ditch. Five people died and 20 to 25 people got injured in this accident. It is reported that the condition of some of the injured is critical.
On getting information about the accident, the police on the Mumbai-Pune expressway reached the spot. They immediately carried out rescue operations and admitted the injured to nearby MGM Hospital and Panvel Rural Hospital for treatment.
