The water released by gravity from the Barvi Dam into the Ulhas River is treated at the Jambhul Water Treatment Plant near Ambernath. Urgent repair work on the gravity channel at this center has necessitated its closure until 12 midnight on Friday, December 27. As a result, cities, municipalities, industrial estates, and village panchayats dependent on this water source, including Ambernath and Ulhasnagar, will face a water supply disruption.

The Barvi Dam, managed by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), supplies water to most municipalities, industrial areas, and village panchayats in the district. Water released from the dam flows into the Ulhas River and is then lifted near Apti Dam to the Jambhul center for treatment. After processing, it is distributed through large channels to various locations, including Ambernath, Ulhasnagar, Kalyan-Dombivli, Mira-Bhayander, Badlapur, Thane Wagle Estate, and TTC industrial areas. Any disruption at this center significantly impacts water supply in these regions.

Due to the ongoing repair work at the Jambhul Water Treatment Plant, the water supply will be completely shut off for 24 hours, starting Thursday night. Areas affected include Ambernath, the Badlapur Industrial Area, Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation, Ambernath Municipal Council, Maharashtra Life Authority, and other nearby urban and rural settlements.

For the next few hours, water will be supplied at low pressure. MIDC has issued a press release urging residents and industries to use water sparingly during this period to manage the temporary disruption effectively.
