With an aim to ensure hassle free, comfortable travel and better services to all bonafide passengers on Western Railway (WR), intensive ticket checking drives are being carried out continuously to curb ticketless/irregular travellers in Mumbai suburban local trains, Mail/Express as well as passenger trains and holiday special trains.

Several ticket checking drives were conducted during April to July, 2024 by the highly motivated ticket checking team under the supervision of senior commercial officers of Western Railway, which earned an amount of INR 57.35 crore. Of which, a revenue of INR 17.39 crore was earned from Mumbai suburban section.

According to Vineet Abhishek, Chief Public Relations Officer WR, on July, 2024, 1.22 lakh ticketless/irregular passengers including cases of unbooked luggage were detected and a sum of Rs 5.20 crore was recovered.

Apart from this, in July itself, the Western Railway detected 84,000 cases on Mumbai suburban section and collected a fine of INR 2.75 crore.

Meanwhile, regular surprise ticket checking drives are also conducted to prevent unauthorised travel in AC local trains. These drives have resulted in fines imposed on about 17,400 passengers between April to July, 2024.
