An 18-year-old student from Ghatkopar (West) in Mumbai had his study visa to Poland revoked after someone gained access to his email account and sent offensive messages to the Polish consulate and the university he was accepted to.

The student, Kumar Hiren Bhuj, was admitted to Poznan University of Medical Sciences. He was preparing to travel to Poland for his higher studies. However, on September 18, the Polish consulate in Mumbai sent him an email cancelling his study visa. It was in response to the two offensive mails sent from his email address on September 17.

The first email was sent at 11:25 pm to the consulate, followed by another at 11:26 pm to the university. Both emails contained highly offensive language about Poland.

Kumar claims that he did not send the emails. He also filed a complaint with the Park Site police in Vikhroli, reporting that his email account had been hacked. Police said that the emails may have been sent by someone who had access to Kumar's phone or knew his email password. The emails were likely sent by someone who knew Kumar’s plans to study in Poland.

A First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against an unknown person under section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for deceit and sections 66(C) and 43 of the IT Act for unauthorised access to someone’s computer and fraudulent use of their password. The Park Site police are working with cybercrime officials to trace the person. The police will also visit the Polish consulate in Nariman Point to verify the facts.

In the past, Kumar had graduated with honours in the science stream from Vidyaniketan Junior College. After this, he secured admission to the medical university in Poznan, which is located in western Poland.
