Customs Officers at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), Mumbai, Zone-III seized suspected cocaine weighing 1.18 kilograms, valued at approximately ₹11.8 Crore in the illicit market, along with 485 grams of gold dust provisionally valued at ₹40 lakh, in two separate cases during the period from 02-05 March 2025

Case 1:
On 02 March 2025, based on spot profiling, a suspected passenger arriving from Uganda aboard Ugandan Airlines flight no. UR 430 was intercepted at the arrival hall. During questioning regarding his travel details and purpose of visit to Mumbai, the passenger displayed signs of nervousness. Upon further inquiry, he admitted to ingesting capsules containing a white crumbled substance, purpoted to be a narcotic. The passenger was taken to the Hon’ble Judicial Magistrate, with a request for recovery under medical supervision. Over the next three days, the passenger purged 100 capsules, which weighed a total of 1.18 kilograms. The substance was confirmed to be cocaine, with an estimated illicit market value of ₹11.8 Crore. Action under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985 is being initiated and further investigations are ongoing.


Case 2:
On 03 March 2025, based on specific intelligence, a 93-year-old passenger was intercepted. Upon investigation, it was discovered that he was smuggling 485 grams of 24 KT gold dust, provisionally valued at ₹40 lakh. The gold was concealed within the clothing worn by the passenger. The gold was seized under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962.
