A 52-year-old man died after falling into a pit dug for a sewage canal in Tilak Nagar area of Chembur on Wednesday morning.


In this regard, Tilak Nagar Police has registered a case against the contractor and the police is conducting further investigation.


For the past few days, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been working on laying a sewerage channel at building number 43 in Tilak Nagar area of Chembur. A 25 feet deep pit has been dug for it. However, no safety precautions were taken on the side of this pit. Raju Dawande (52), a resident of the area, was passing by when his foot slipped and he fell into a 25 feet deep pit.

As soon as some locals noticed the incident, they immediately informed the Tilak Nagar police and fire brigade personnel about the incident.


After some time, the fire brigade personnel rushed to the spot and took him to Rajawadi Hospital in Ghatkopar. But he died before the treatment.


After registering the incident, Tilak Nagar police have registered a case against the supervisor of the contractor company Z Construction and the police are investigating further.
