A nine-year-old boy crossing the road in Govandi area was hit by a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) garbage truck on Tuesday morning. In this accident, the child died on the spot. After this accident, angry citizens vandalised the garbage truck. Shivaji Nagar police registered a case and have arrested the truck driver.


The accident took place at Baiganwadi signal area in Govandi around 11 am on Tuesday. Hameed (9), who lives in this area, was going home from the madrasa around 11 am. While crossing the road, Hamid was hit by the garbage truck of the municipality which came at a high speed. Hameed died on the spot in this accident.

The news of Hameed's accident spread like wildfire in the area. Enraged citizens took to the streets in large numbers. They vandalised the garbage truck. After the incident, Shivaji Nagar police immediately rushed to the spot and dispersed the crowd. After that, the police registered a case against the truck driver and arrested him.


In the past few years, many such accidents have taken place in this area and many people have lost their lives in these accidents. Locals have demanded that traffic police should take strict action against unruly drivers in this area and also deploy traffic police here.
