On Tuesday, May 3, the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) issued a circular that medical students in the state will have to finish the compulsory one-year internship in hospitals attached to those colleges where they studied MBBS, reports stated. With this, they have adhered to the new internship guidelines made by the National Medical Council (NMC).
Based on accounts, students were earlier permitted externships wherein they were given the opportunity to finish their compulsory internships in hospitals attached to medical educational institutions other than that from which they pursued their MBBS course.
This transfer was permitted to offer approval by the MUHS adhering to the due process. Now, through the new gazette issued by the NMC on internships, guidelines do not permit such transfer. In light of these revised guidelines by the national body, the MUHS issued a circular highlighting that the process will be stopped from the date of the circular.
According to narratives, the circular elaborates on how following the new gazette on mandatory rotating medical internship regulation declared by the NMC, the academic council of the MUHS discussed the same.
The circular added that it is based on this decision taken, that all medical colleges have been apprised that the procedure of altering the medical college for internships that were permitted according to the amendments in the academic notification in 2012 has now been stopped for degree courses, highlighted accounts.
