As schools and colleges are gearing up to resume classes amidst the outbreak of the coronavirus, colleges have started planning safety measures for the students as they await directives from the state government and the University of Mumbai.

With colleges resuming after a gap of over eight months, social distancing, temperature checks, sanitization and face masks are being made top priorities in a bid to battle the disease. Moreover, colleges have been insisting tests for the coronavirus for the teachers and other staff members in order to ensure safety in the college premises.

As per reports, as the colleges have been waiting for directives from the authorities, they have been regularly sanitizing the premises, including labs, classes and offices. In addition, temperature checks are touted to take place once the students start coming in.

Earlier on November 5, the University Grants Commission (UGC) had issued guidelines for the resumption of universities and colleges across the nation "in a sequential manner".

The new guidelines issued by UGC permits the universities and colleges outside the containment zone to reopen after due consultation with the respective State/UT Governments. However, students along with the other staff living in containment zones will not be permitted to attend the colleges. Moreover, the notice stated that the guidelines have been authorized after approval by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs and Union Health Ministry. Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank also took to social media to inform the same.
