The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicated heavy to very heavy rainfall across Maharashtra over the next five days. Moreover, a red alert has been issued in Maharashtra's Kolhapur and Sindhudurg, Konkan division along with orange alert for Ratnagiri.
Meanwhile, the weather department has said that Mumbai and its suburbs will have cloudy skies. In the view of this, the IMD has issued yellow alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad.
Therefore, fishermen are advised not to venture along and off North and South Maharashtra till June 13.
As per the usual pattern, monsoon enters Mumbai on June 11. However, this year, monsoon has advanced two days before its arrival date in Mumbai.
Besides, there are chances of extremely heavy rainfall (more than 204mm in 24 hours) over coastal Karnataka, Konkan, and Madhya Maharashtra till Monday, June 10, and heavy showers will continue over these regions during the week ahead.
These areas will remain under an ‘orange’ alert till Tuesday, June 11, as the monsoon activity is likely to continue through the week ahead.
Moreover, it is pertinent to note that city recorded 55-77 millimeters of rainfall in the span of one hour from 11 pm to 12 am on Sunday, June 9. The eastern suburbs recorded 28-40 millimeters of rainfall, while the western suburbs witnessed 48-77 millimeters of fresh spells during the same time duration, as per the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Thane and Palghar districts also experienced heavy rainfall of 37.06 mm rainfall in the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 am on Sunday, June 9.
This led to severe waterlogging in various areas and several tree branch falling incidents.
