After a summery-hot week in the beginning December, the minimum temperature in Mumbai dropped to 17 degrees on Sunday, December 8. The city has witnessed a drop of eight degrees in three days.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD)’s Santacruz observatory recorded 17.2 degree Celsius, which was 1.6°C below normal.
This marked a nearly 3 degrees drop from the previous day's 20.7 degrees Celsius and a 7 degrees drop compared to December 6, when minimum temperature was 24.4 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, IMD's Colaba observatory recorded a minimum temperature of 20.9°C, which was 0.8 degrees below normal.
Besides, the day temperature recorded by IMD Colaba and Santacruz observatories was 30.3 degrees Celsius and 32.2 degrees Celsius.
Mumbai's day temperature recorded a sharp rise due to Cyclone Fengal, which made landfall in Tamil Nadu over the past weekend. The cyclone brought moisture to Mumbai and Maharashtra, altering the wind pattern from chilly, dry northerlies to humid east-south easterlies.

As per IMD Mumbai’s weekly weather report, the city is expected to record its lowest temperatures of the week. Mumbaikars will be able to enjoy pleasant weather and clear visibility.
On December 9-10, minimum temperature is likely to be 16 degrees Celsius and maximum will be 32 degrees Celsius. The sky will be mainly clear this week.
The ups and downs in the temperatures will continue till January-end, expert stated.

On Nov 29, the minimum was 16.5°C — the lowest in eight years.
On December 4, the maximum temperature was 37.3° Celsius, making it the warmest December day in 16 years.
