In the next 24 to 48 hours, there will be a significant change in the weather in Mumbai and its suburbs. According to the forecast of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the entire city and surrounding areas are expected to have cloudy weather with heavy rainfall.
Districts with possibility of heavy rains have been kept on orange alert. Besides, wind speed of 50-60 kmph is likely. The temperature will range from a maximum of approximately 31°C to a minimum of 25°C.
Looking ahead to the next 48 hours, cloudy conditions will continue with moderate to heavy rains expected over Mumbai and suburbs. Wind speed may be 40-50 kmph. Temperatures are expected to remain the same, with a maximum around 30°C and a minimum around 25°C.
The IMD has issued a red alert for Palghar, Raigad, Pune, Ratnagiri, Satara, and Nandurbar districts due to heavy to very heavy rainfall expected in the next 24 hours. Mumbai is under a yellow alert, while Thane has an orange alert according to the IMD's latest five-day forecast.
Meanwhile, an orange alert has been issued for Pune, Satara, Amravati, Bhandara, Chandrapur, and Gondia districts. A yellow alert has been issued for several districts in western Maharashtra and Marathwada.
The IMD's Santacruz observatory recorded 83 mm of rain, and Colaba recorded 46 mm till 8:30 am on Sunday, August 25.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)'s automated weather systems reported 73 mm of rain in the eastern suburbs, 69 mm in the western suburbs, and 51 mm in the island city during the same period.
Other parts of Maharashtra have also recorded heavy rainfall, with Harnai in Ratnagiri and Dahanu in Palghar receiving 116 mm and 143 mm respectively. Marathwada saw rainfall with Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar recording 43 mm, and Nanded and Parbhani receiving 48 mm and 55 mm respectively.
