As soon as the monsoon starts, the number of patients with epidemic diseases increases. As many as 1,395 patients of various epidemic diseases have been detected in Mumbai since the rains started in June. Among these, the number of gastro and cold patients is more.
According to the data of the Public Health Department of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), there has been an increase in the number of patients of various epidemic diseases in Mumbai in June. 1,395 cases of epidemic diseases have been detected in June. Among this, a maximum of 722 gastro patients were found. Of which, 443 winter fever, 99 jaundice, 93 dengue, 28 lepto and 10 swine flu patients were found. Around 5,697 cases of various epidemic diseases were reported in Mumbai from January to May 2024. In this too, 3,478 gastro patients and 1,612 cold fever patients have been found.
Preventive measures were started from April this year to prevent epidemics. As a result, compared to last year, there has been a decrease in the number of patients of epidemic diseases in June, said Daksha Shah, executive health officer of the municipality.
Decrease in the number of patients this year
1395 patients of epidemic diseases have been detected in Mumbai this June. But in June last year, 3012 patients of epidemic diseases were detected. Among them, there were 1744 gastro, 639 cold, 353 dengue, 141 jaundice, 97 lepto, 30 swine flu, 8 chikungunya patients.
