As doctors in medical colleges do not wear aprons, patients and their relatives do not realise who the doctor is. Due to this, often inappropriate incidents happen. The Directorate of Medical Education and Research (DMER) directed that all doctors in medical colleges should wear white aprons to prevent untoward incidents and to make the difference between doctors and hospital staff visible to patients and their relatives. Also, if a doctor is found not wearing an apron or not wearing it properly, a verbal explanation will be given first, followed by a written explanation.

Deans, teachers, undergraduate, postgraduate, inter-resident students, resident doctors and all other doctors in health science colleges in the state are required to wear aprons in the college and hospital premises. Despite this, most of the doctors put the rules on the table.
