Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, on the occasion of National Doctor's Day, mentioned that the temples and places of worship across Maharashtra remained close during the lockdown due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. But during this phase, our lives were saved by doctors, who are no less than God. He shared the thoughts on Thursday, July 1, 2021, while praising doctors for their work and support.

National Doctor's Day is celebrated on July 1 remembering Dr BC Roy on his birth anniversary. Marking the occasion, CM Uddhav Thackeray wrote a letter to the doctors congratulating them for the hardwork they put during COVID-19 pandemic, due to which the state was able to fight against COVID-19.

The letter said that for the last year and a half, we've all been affected by the second COVID-19 wave and though the spread has been contained, the responsibility of the doctors and healthcare providers has increased, as we are soon going to face the predicted third wave.

"I believe that we have fought the battle of COVID-19 till date because of you doctors and warriors in the medical field, and we will continue to take up this challenge with our strong support. This war is different. Such incidents and epidemics occur once in many years and we all have to deal with it. Border warfare is different where there is an enemy physically is in front of us, but the fight against diseases like COVID is a different matter, where the enemy is not even visible to the naked eye, however, the battle continues. Be it patient surveys, laboratory tests, treatment of patients, or other services, we are all risking our lives because it is not possible to guess when this invisible enemy intensifies its attack. During this time, the valuable contribution made by doctors, both in this first and second wave, cannot be expressed in words," he said.

CM and officials from the health department have constantly interacted with the doctors on several occassions and taken advice to tackle the crisis.  Doctors, both in government hospitals or private hospitals, have done their best to save the lives by risking their own.

Sharing this thought, CM concluded, "Maharashtra could not have and will not be able to fight this battle without you. Many doctors have also lost their lives and their families while fighting the infection and I have seen many doctors return in just a few days to help the ones in need. On the other hand, I have seen doctors who have stayed away from home, for months, to take care of the patients in these tough times. Gratitude for their relentless work cannot be expressed in words and Maharashtra will always be grateful to you for the valuable support you have given to the  people of the state."
