The growing cases of coronavirus in Mumbai since the start of February have been a cause of concern. While there is a weekend lockdown and night curfew in place, there are chances that the state and therefore the city may have to undergo another lockdown. State health minister Rajesh Tope on Sunday talking to the reporters mentioned that an appropriate decision regarding imposing a lockdown in Maharashtra will be taken after April 14.

Tope made this statement after attending the virtual meeting of the COVID-19 task force. This meeting was chaired by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to discuss measures, including the imposition of a lockdown in the state, to break the virus chain.

During this meeting, CM has hinted at imposing a complete lockdown in the state, it will not be implemented immediately. The general public should be given a period of 2-3 days, said Thackeray.

A tweet from the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) said, "In a meeting with the State Task Force, the chief minister discussed the availability of oxygen & beds, use of Remdesivir, treatment protocols, increase in capacity of facilities, imposition of restrictions & fines for violating COVID protocols."

Looking at the situation in Mumbai, BMC has already issued new SOPs that will help in fighting the spread better. The new SOPs including opening three new jumbo COVID centres in Mumbai and also appointing nodal officers for the war room of each ward.

Post this meeting with the COVID-19 task force, guardian minister Aslam Shaikh too hinted that there may be a 2-3 week-long lockdown imposed in the state.
