According to the latest narratives, a draft report made by the consultant of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) states that the 22 km Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) will not be able to bear the load of the Metro.
Based on accounts, however, the MMRDA claimed that it is not ruling out the possibility of the bridge and will thus study if they could make it work by increasing the load capacity.
While the MTHL will connect Sewri with Nhava Sheva, it is anticipated to be ready by 2023 for which nearly 65 per cent of the work is finished. Earlier, in January 2022, the MMRDA announced that it would appoint a consultant to assess if the sea bridge could take the load of a Metro corridor.
In the aftermath of this, a draft report was finished last month. SVR Srinivas was quoted in narratives elaborating on how the draft states that the bridge may not be able to take the load of the Metro, but they have not ruled out the project yet since they are exploring the possibility of increasing the load capacity.
The MTHL will be a six-lane project which will offer direct access to Navi Mumbai as well as the Navi Mumbai International Airport, in addition to being a gateway to the Mumbai-Pune expressway. Speculations have been made that motorists will have to pay a toll ranging from INR 175 to INR 790.
