The Mumbai traffic police (MTP) declared that due to the ongoing Coastal Road project work, Worli's Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan Marg on the northbound lane will stay closed until November this year.

In Dadar, the Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan Marg stretches from Worli to Prabhadevi. According to the police notice, the road closure starts from Bindu Madhav Thackeray Junction and ends at JK Kapoor Junction. All of these are out of commission starting from June 1 and will remain till November 30.

Vehicles coming north from Bindu Madhav Thackeray Junction would be rerouted and allowed to proceed only in the direction of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, the Mumbai Traffic Police said, even though the route will be closed.

The traffic police have suggested an alternate route, which is as follows: cars heading from Mela Junction to the Khan Abdul Gaffar Khan flyover - to Worli Naka - and then driving towards Podar Junction to reach the target destination. The other approach is to turn right at Bindu Madhav Thackeray Junction in the direction of Flora Foundation, then go to Sir Pochkhanwala Marg, JK Kapoor Junction, and finally your destination.

Another route offered to drivers as an option is to turn right at Flora Fountain from Bindu Madhav Thackeray Junction, heading towards Podar Junction and JK Kapoor Junction to reach the intended destination.

On June 10, the public and private transport will be able to use the second section of the Mumbai Coastal Road, which runs from Marine Drive to Haji Ali.

An estimated 130,000 vehicles will benefit daily from this new road, which is predicted to reduce travel times from two hours to about 40 minutes between south Mumbai and the western suburbs.

According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) authorities, the whole stretch from Bandra-Worli Sea Link to Marine Drive should be open before this year end. The deadline for this is October, according to BMC assistant commissioner Dr. Amit Saini, but some smaller portions might still be under construction. When fully operational, it is expected to relieve traffic for commuters in the western suburban districts travelling to South Bombay.

Recently, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde made the announcement of the opening while inspecting a leakage of few of the tunnels.
