Three floors of a multi-storey building in Mahad of Raigad district collapsed on Monday evening. The incident in question took place around 18:50 hours. As per reports by ANI, 50 people are feared trapped inside the building.

Rescue operations are on. Three teams of NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) have been deployed in the rescue operations. So far 15 people have been rescued from this building.

Update:  

At least one person had lost his life in this incident. The name of the building is Tarique Garden and it was a ground-plus-four structure. The building was not more than 10 years ago and around 40 families were residing in the building. The person who died in the incident was not the resident of this building.

The rescue operations have been going on for more than 12 hours now. Apart from the team from NDRF, 12 teams of fire brigade have been working in rescuing people that were trapped in the building.

At the time of filing, 25 people were still feared trapped under the debris. As per the officials, 60 people have been rescued from this building.

Aditi Tatkare, guardian minister for Raigad district, said a committee would be formed to probe the incident. He mentioned that a panel will investigate how and why an incident of this nature happened. Furthermore, the structural audit will also be carried out of other buildings to prevent similar incidents,” Tatkare said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed in a press statement shared that he was saddened by the incident and also wished that all those injured will have a speedy recovery.
