Bandra West Assembly Constituency falls in the North-Central Lok Sabha Constituency. This new constituency came into existence after the constituency reorganisation in 2009. Congress and BJP have a grip on this constituency. BJP leader Ashish Shelar is the current MLA from here. He has won the Bandra West seat in the last two elections. After the formation of this constituency, in the first election i.e. in 2009, Baba Siddiqui won from here on a Congress ticket. However, in 2014, Ashish Shelar wrested this constituency from Siddiqui. Even in 2019, Shelar maintained his stronghold. Meanwhile, Baba Siddiqui has resigned from the Congress party and publicly joined the NCP led by Ajit Pawar. It is not yet clear what political benefit Siddiqui will get from NCP. But Siddiqui's decision to quit Congress will be beneficial for BJP.
Minority votes are decisive in Bandra West Constituency. Baba Siddiqui still has a popular base in this constituency. As he resigned from the Congress party and joined the Nationalist Congress Party (Ajit Pawar), it can be said that the current MLA of this constituency and Mumbai BJP president Adv. Ashish Shelar's path to victory in the upcoming elections has become easier. In 2014, there was a fight between Shelar and Siddiqui. At that time, Shelar was elected by a large margin. Siddiqui stayed out of the fray in 2019, so Shelar was re-elected with a good margin. Congress and BJP have a grip on this constituency. This constituency has become a stronghold of the Mahayuti as the big leaders of both the parties are in the Mahayuti. Therefore, if the BJP nominates Shelar in the upcoming elections, the big question is who will the Mahavikas Aghadi field against them.
BJP has a stronghold
In recent years, it has been seen that the minority Muslim community in the country is against the BJP. Therefore, there is a possibility that the votes of the minorities in Bandra West Assembly constituency will also go against the BJP. At such a time, it is believed that a Muslim leader like Baba Siddiqui, who is well-established in the constituency, will benefit from the BJP in the Bandra West Assembly Constituency as he leaves the Congress and joins the NCP.
Baba Siddiqui's son Zeeshan is an MLA from Bandra West Assembly constituency. He has also expressed displeasure with Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) and Congress, hinting that they too are on the path of NCP. In the previous election, Zeeshan was elected due to the division of votes in the Shiv Sena.
